This Year in Numbers: What 2014 has brought us in terms of SEO

The year is almost over and it is during this time that we begin to analyze what it left us in terms of earnings and teachings. Many small and medium sized companies are discovering the importance of SEO and how it is pivotal to diffuse your message to a wider audience. With Google getting more and more intuitive everyday SEO is becoming more complex but even more important than it was before. We’re still a few months from the New Year but it is the perfect time to analyze what this year has left us and what we can expect to happen in 2015.

Content alone will not do

Writing content used to be as simple as just putting a bunch of words together and adding it on to your website but even those days are fading away. Short articles on your blog are always important but Google prefers resorting to the more helpful lengthier articles that supply users with much more information. I know that quantity isn’t always quality but in the eyes of the master search engine, more is better. Longer pieces that are a minimum of 1000 words will not become 2000+ word articles.

In addition to articles you also want to look for alternatives to add new content to your site. Look into implementing videos, PDFs and other means of getting your point across. This will not only have your site stand out but a more diverse content base will help you rank more effectively for your target terms.

Impeccable Design is Crucial

Great design cannot be stressed enough and will continue to be crucial in the distant future as well, but what is great design? Great design involves knowing how to match colors with text, having the text be the right size, organization of videos/images and last but not least, professionalism. A well designed website will help drive users in whichever direction you’re looking to guide them, whether you want them to sign up for a newsletter, purchase your products and even share the content they just read on social media.

In 2015 design will also play a key role considering on how many more people are starting to put away their PC on their free time and use their mobile devices. By mobile devices we no longer mean tablets and cell phones but now even watches and eyeglasses are considered mobile devices. So now that there are different means of connecting, webmasters and graphic designers will have to kick it up a notch and ensure their site’s design is simple enough to be construed on the new collection of mobile devices.

Social Media is here to Stay

When Facebook began more than 10 years ago everyone thought it was a trend that would eventually die out. But unlike its predecessor Myspace, Facebook has managed to grow even more and now it is rumored that if Facebook users were a country, it would be the second biggest country in the world, only surpassed by China. Any company with more than a billion users would do all they can to hold on to these ‘clients’. The same is said for other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Google+. These guys aren’t going anywhere, if anything they will only become more powerful and manage to accumulate even more of a following. For companies aiming towards ranking their content it is and will be important to have social media profiles on the most relevant platforms. Make sure your content and images are easily shareable.

Consider Long Term Strategies

Having SEO tactics may have worked for many companies in recent years but the new tendency has been developing long term strategies. Do you have a content writing strategy? Do you have a social media strategy? And do you have a link building strategy? These items individually are the basis of a successful site presence and together may mean a new step in getting your point across to a wider audience. What we’re saying is, tactics are important but they should be steps that ultimately lead to completing a long term strategy.
