Why And How To Optimize Content

As an Internet marketing company, one of the first things we assess upon performing an SEO analysis of a new client is the age of the domain. A younger website will have less content, and thus a lower rank. With this in mind, it is always better to perfect and add on to an already existing site than to give up on it and start from scratch.

Remember that SEO services are a long distance race, and the beginning is always the toughest, no matter what. So in case you’ve just recently started a website but haven’t been having much luck in the early stages, here are a few tips for how to improve what you’ve got, as opposed to you just quitting altogether. Because in the end, that’s only going to hurt you.

Go to the Google Search Console and look for the content that is ranked below the top three but not lower than the top 10. Between 3 and 10 should be your Goldilocks zone. This is a good way to set realistic goals, seeing as how user traffic teeters off dramatically after the third result. That means you stand a chance to climb your way past them in due time, whereas those in the top 2 will simply be too far ahead.

In addition, also be sure to check out Google Analytics. Ideally you want to find web pages that have high bounce rate, which in other words is when a high percentage of visitors are drawn to a specific page but are not inspired to explore the page much further beyond visiting that initial page. The goal is to find pages that have lots of traffic but don’t effectively engage users to the extent that it yields further exploration of the website. This is your competition.

But in addition to looking for the high bounce rate so you can get ahead, you always want to take a close look at those who seem to be doing it right. Google Analytics will also show you what pages have high conversion rates, which in other words means that the pages are leading to customer/user transactions, be it purchases, subscriptions, or other.

Examine these pages in detail and keep your eye on the keywords. Whatever’s working for them can work for you as well, just so long as you provide good solid original content using those same keywords and phrases.

This is just an extremely abridged version of a much longer and more complicated list of strategies for how to compensate for a young domain. Whatever you do, don’t trash the site and start from square one, because you will undoubtedly enter into a vicious circle, making the same old mistakes until you quit the business altogether. Instead, follow these tips, and while you’re at it, keep your eye out for more SEO services strategies.
